August Contemplation
Less and less is done, until nothing is done. And when nothing is done, nothing is left undone.
I’ve been feeling the call to dive back into Substack. A podcast has also spinning in the back of my mind for a couple of years now — those who’ve been following me for a while know that I’ve mentioned a potential follow up to my podcast series Joan for quite some time - but nothing has come to fruition… yet.
I often overwhelm myself with ideas. So I thought I’d simply start back here on Substack. One step at a time!
With autumn on the horizon, I can feel my soul yearning for coziness — a subtle pull inward, beckoning me to slow down from the summer madness.
While I re-find my feet here, I thought I’d start with a monthly series where I share a quote, or a thought for us to contemplate.
Back in 2019, I participated in a 6 month facilitator training in London called Pause Place - It was a life changing experience for me, and one of the quotes we often contemplated is this:
“Less and less is done, until nothing is done. And when nothing is done, nothing is left undone.”
I recall hearing it for the first time while sitting in circle with my fellow trainees, and I couldn’t quite grasp it’s meaning. Many years have since passed, and I often find those words rippling through my mind…
Without impressing my interpretation on you, I’ll leave you to contemplate.
I’d love to explore your exegesis in the comments, if you feel called to share. 🙏🏼
ex·e·ge·sis
/ˌeksəˈjēsəs/
noun
- critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially of scripture
While looking for a synonym for interpretation I came across the word “exegesis” — which I had never heard before.
However, I’m not interested in your “critical explanation,” but rather your interpretation through the heart.
All answers welcome. 🤍

p.s. I’d like to share here more frequently…
UNLEARNING isn’t about forgetting what we know. It’s about peeling back the layers of conditioning, habit, and performance to discover what’s truer underneath. It’s the slow, steady work of unlearning the ways we hide… and learning, instead, to live from a place that feels more like ourselves.
I intend to share my own musings on spirituality, health, business, and life (more regularly…!) The threads may seem varied, but they all tie back to one question: What would life look like if we lived from our most authentic, unedited selves?
A question I often find myself pondering.
Nothing excites me more than a prompt from someone — so if there’s something you’d like me to write about, please share!

I suppose doing for the sake of doing isn’t really doing at all. It’s missing meaning, intention, feeling. What is done in love, is done well. 🤍
Love this musing while on my lunch break! My interpretation is that it’s the antithesis of “doing more and more and more”; when we get caught up in the race of trying to “do everything” what are we really accomplishing? Nothing? But when we’re doing “nothing” we really are doing something, and that sweet quiet something is usually everything. Xx keep em coming
